Mahesh Banskota is currently teaching Public Policy, Economic Diplomacy, Development Concepts and Applications to Master level students and World Economic History and History of Economic Thought to Economics Undergraduates in the School of Arts in Kathmandu University. He was also Dean of the School of Arts in Kathmandu University (2008- 2016).He was Country Representative, World Conservation Union (IUCN) , Nepal Country office ( 2000-2004 ). Before this he was  Deputy Director General ( 1992- 2000), International Center for Integrated Mountain Development  (ICIMOD), where he worked in different positions since 1984. Prior to joining ICIMOD, he was working with Administrative Staff College (1982-1984), Center for Economic Development and Administration, (CEDA) , Tribhuvan University as Associate Research Officer ( 1972 -1982) and the National Planning Commission as an Economist in the Regional Planning Unit ( 1969-1970).He completed his Master in Economics (M.A.,) from the Delhi School of Economics (1969) and PhD from Cornell University , USA in City and Regional Planning  (1979). He has written extensively on the subjects of mountain development, environment, Nepal’s economy, public policy and more recently on Disability in Nepal.
